Movie Review: Zombadings 1: Patayin sa Shokot si Remington

SPOILERS

the title translates to: zombadings1: kill with fear remington.

what's a zombading? it's a cross between a zombie and a bading or a gay. how did that happen? (SEE BELOW for the plot)

AWAARD

contrary to some reviews that the movie's plot is not clear, it is quite tight. it's a comedy, drama, and horror flick combined into one. it's an entertaining movie and it can make people laugh.

what made the movie good is the acting that went with it.

commendable is the performance of young actor, martin escudero. he went through the transformation without trying hard. he was able to develop his character naturally. this is hard because films are not made in the chronological order. i'm sure he had to move back and forth with his character. he also didn't appear awkward. if he gets an acting nomination, i won't mind him winning. the supporting cast is as always dependable. actors who were good at being goons in other movies, came out as caring and heartwarming. the regular people were probably the people in that town. did the production call for casting to find such regular looking badings?

the setting of lucban was probably chosen because it is one of the most colorful festivals in the country. color=rainbow=gay. or only because, it happened at the time when they were filming. or quezon province has more gays that any other province?

even the script was well-written. the gay speak wasn't too irritating and it was witty and clever to have subtitles when this was happening. quite true that if you're not in the circle, you won't understand what they were talking about.

i hope it makes money so there'll be zombadings 2 where remington is now studying in the city.

PLOT and SPOILERS ALERT

as a young boy, remington points and calls "bakla!" every gay person he sees. at the cemetery, her sees one and eventually, the gay curses him - that he will become gay as he grows older.

years later, remington is now almost 21. his town is awakened by a series of gay murders. he is oblivious until one night, he is attacked by an ugly figure who tries to cut him. this begins the shokot part.
he wakes up and thinks it was all a dream but the scratches on his legs are real and he has lost his body hair. the next night, his tongue gets pulled. again, he wakes up and finds his speech has transformed into gay speak. as he wakes up, something gay happens to him. he finds himself falling for a neighbor's daughter (whose father he called "bakla" but that was the truth, anyway, according to her) and his best friend, the tricycle driver, who later reveals that he understands remington and does not mind being his lover but eventually stops because he fears remington might be the next victim of the serial gay killer.

what does he fear - turning out to be gay or having all the nightmares?

the serial gay killer kills the gays with a ray gun that was invented primarily to identify and segregate the gay goats from the male goats. all for agri purposes. but the gun gets into the wrong hands of the homophobic godfather of remington. when remington softens up, the gun vibrates and points out that he is gay. the godfather is so disappointed and decides it is his mission to rid his town of gays.

prior to one full moon, remington and his friends confront the gay who had cursed him. he said that the only way to get rid of the curse is to find a man who doesn't have any gay experience and who's willing to swap places with him. he has to find that man before the full moon ends. - this probably the remington part -when he investigates -remington steele.

that gay succumbs to the raygun and his faithful assistant revive him but awakens all the other gays who were murdered - this is the zombading part.

eventually, they manage to fulfill their mission and there was indeed a man who fit that description - remington's father.

despite the end of the full moon, the zombadings lived and had their own livelihood program, making zombading zombreros.

so much for the story,
